In the '60s and early '70s, it was found that the world will face serious problems if the planet's ecosystems are not properly concerned.

Air quality in densely populated areas around the globe have been destroyed at an alarming rate. Many rivers in the world has been polluted affecting marine life. Thus the water becomes unsafe for human use for different purposes as well. Even rainwater, water is generally considered the cleanest sources have become toxic to plants, polluted rivers and destroyed the car and equipment are due to acid rain. A picture from a satellite television show that pollution is taking place everywhere on Earth. The pollution of the planet due to human activities has become a serious problem for everyone.

Environmental pollution is not a new problem. Environmental pollution caused by human activities has existed since humans appeared on earth. However, we can see the relationship between the widespread contamination throughout the world and the industrial revolution. In the 19th century and 2 / 3 of the 20th century, factories springing up across the city. The use of electric service areas, shops and apartments were discharged daily range of waste into the air, into rivers, streams and soil. When the population is not large, the problem of population on the environment are just minor problems, no care. However, in recent years, along with the multiplication of plants in the cities, the increasing number of the use of toxic substances such as insecticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers; the impact of each individual in creating environmental pollution from their livelihoods (mainly through the use of chemical raw materials sources thachva with harm to the ecosystem and more, the ignoring the problem exists is not a solution anymore. The world population has increased from 2.5 billion in 1950 to nearly 6 billion at present. The population growth that is leading to environmental pollution and simultaneously with the exploitation of more resources. Environmental pollution and increase the suffering of nature take place simultaneously. We can only have these efforts as a way to control the population but they One can not reduce the population growth in our intentions. Only one parameter we can reduce within our control - that is the problem of pollution.

In the mid-'80s, interest in the environment has become more important. Ozone layer protecting the environment is decreasing, and at the same time the atmosphere is also affected by the greenhouse effect which leads to global warming. Long streaks of grass destruction was observed in the tropical rain and scientists have warned that the entire planet could be in danger if deforestation continues to slash. Views of different scientists about the ozone layer depletion. Some scientists stress that the continued use of chlorofluorocarbons destroy ozone. Chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs are commonly found in industrial solvents, air conditioning system and recently found in containers of paints, hair sprays and other products. The decline in the ozone layer can cause skin cancer. Similarly, if we continue burning products from fossil fuels (coal, petroleum products) to its current level or higher, the tip may melt polar ice and led to flooding worldwide flood.

Scientists can not agree with the view that global warming caused by humans. While one group said that the earth temperature is returned by the short and long cycle and this cycle is very clear. Another group, the opinions gathered from the mass media and various governments that climate change is very clear and that human-caused. Can see very clearly that the environment has been destroyed and the human ecological system of the earth should be more concerned.

Environmental issues are increasingly the national interest. Environmental Protection Law of the United States was passed in Parliament in 1969, the U.S. Environmental Protection was established. United States convened a conference on environment in Stockholm in 1971. Two important results obtained from this conference: Firstly, the environment program (UNEP) was established by the United States. UNEP will be responsible for liability issues and promote environmental awareness worldwide. The mission of UNEP is to the whole world of information about environmental issues. Second, the World Council on Environment and Development (WCED) has been established. In 1987, the WCED has published a report calling for the construction industry for environmental management systems effectively. Also in 1987, a world conference was held in Montreal to develop the necessary agreements to ban the production of ozone destroying chemicals.

The results of the report of the WCED conference on environment and development of the U.S. in 1992 (also known as the Summit of the earth) in Rio de Janeiro. To prepare for this conference and to recognize the success of the development of ISO 9000 - Quality Management System, Organization of International Standardization (ISO) recommended to attend. During 1991, the ISO along with the International Council on techniques that established the Strategic Advisory Group on Environment (SAGE) with the participation of 25 countries. SAGE said that the group built ISO environmental management standards and international instruments for the implementation and evaluation is very appropriate. ISO has committed to setting standards for environmental management at the international summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.

However, some problems arose in the early stages. Some member states have been surprised that SAGE has overcome his authority to make regulations on the need for environmental standards and the need to build to these standards. A series of tasks related to the environmental standards was started in 1992 when the ISO technical committee set up 207 (TC 207) is the agency will be responsible for building the system of international environmental management and tools necessary to implement this system. Specific scope of TC 207 is to establish an environmental management system consistent and give the tools to implement this system. The work of TC 207 is divided in six sub-committees and a special working group. Canada is the secretariat of Technical Committee TC 207 and six other top six national committee. Jobs not covered by the TC 207 is the work related to the pollution test methods, given the limits of pollution and set the level of performance evaluation. This avoids the TC 207 work related to the principal under the authority of law enforcement.
